Development, digitalization and disinformation in Myanmar
The atrocities committed against the Rohingya population in Myanmar is the only example thus far of a social media company, Facebook, being accused of having played a part in genocide. The liberal reforms initiated by the military regime in 2011, sparked one of the world’s fastest digital transformations. Protracted conflicts offline have transitioned into the online space, exacerbated by algorithms and social media platforms.
