Adea Gafuri

Research Fellow

Adea is a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at The Europe Programme at The Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) and belongs to UI's The Special Research Programme for International Studies

Adea completed her PhD in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Her research lies at the intersection between comparative politics and international relations. It explores the the role of foreign aid, from both democratic and autocratic countries, and its impact on democratisation in low- and middle-income countries. In her research, she uses a multi-method approach, including quantitative, experimental and qualitative analysis. She has conducted fieldwork in the countries of the Western Balkans on EU integration with regard to democracy assistance.

Adea is affiliated with the Varieties of Democracy Institute (V-Dem), the Quality of Government at Gothenburg University and the AidData Institute at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
