Paul is an associate fellow at The Asia Programme at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI)
Paul is an Associate Fellow at UI’s Asia programme and a PhD candidate at Gothenburg University’s School of Global Studies in the field of Peace and Development studies. His research focuses on resistance against authoritarian rule and its implications for democracy and the rights of minorities; he examines Myanmar’s ‘Spring Revolution’ movement against the 2021 military coup. He also follows developments across Southeast Asia in international politics, human rights, and conflict. Paul has served as a spokesperson for UNHCR’s Myanmar country office. As a journalist with independent news media in Myanmar and Cambodia, and a contributor to international media such as TIME Magazine, The Guardian, Foreign Policy, Paul has reported on issues such as Myanmar’s peace process, Rohingya genocide, and illicit drug trade.
