Associate Research Fellow

Yeonju Jung is an Associate Research Fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs’ Asia Programme.

Her research focuses on global governance and international institutions, particularly in the areas of security and development. She specializes in translating academic expertise into policy-relevant insights, offering rigorous analysis on international affairs in the Asia region.

She earned her PhD in International Relations from Stockholm University in 2024. Her doctoral thesis examines China's contestation in global (peace) governance, analyzing why, how, and when China challenges international norms. Previously, she worked as a policy researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and as a field practitioner with a local development NGO in Cambodia. She holds a master's degree in Social Anthropology of Development from SOAS, University of London.

Areas of expertise: global governance, rising powers, development, security, peacebuilding, gender, China, the Korean Peninsula, and East Asia.
