The Russia-Ukraine War: Can There Be Peace?
In the last few months, Russia and Ukraine have negotiated troop withdrawals and prisoner exchange. Can there be peace? The Swedish Institute of International Affairs held a seminar on the Russia-Ukraine War with Andreas Umland.
In April 2014, following the Russian annexation of Crimea, Russia initiated a conflict in Donbass and supported the creation of separatist territories.
Ukraine's newly elected President Volodymyr Zelensky has backed an agreement to bring elections to the occupied territories amid hopes that it will bring the conflict to an end. Can there be a solution? What are the goals of Kyiv and Moscow?
Speaker:
Andreas Umland, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation and Senior Fellow at Institute of International Relations, Prague.
The seminar was moderated by Martin Kragh, Head of UI’s Russia and Eurasia Programme.
