The EU Conversations 2024: Artificial Intelligence in the EU's Digital Home

To discuss the current situation in the European Union (EU) amidst the new geopolitical landscape, the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) hosts the conversation on Artificial Intelligence in the EU's Digital Home at the high-level international conference "EU Conversations 2024: EU as a Secure Home in Today's Geopolitical Landscape".

In the last five years, over sixty world countries have formulated AI strategies, with many transitioning to policy and regulatory frameworks. The EU’s approach centres on ‘trustworthy AI’, addressing risks to fundamental rights and safety. The proliferation of national frameworks poses challenges to international trade, prompting collaborative efforts such as aligning the US and the EU perspectives on AI risk management. Hence, this conversation is aimed at defining the EU legislation that is necessary to be adopted to mitigate the risks associated with the use of AI.

Participants:

Risto Uuk, EU Research Lead, Future of Life Institute
Dr. Signe Bālina, President of the Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association
Dr. Raluca Csernatoni, Research Fellow at Carnegie Europe
Federico Menna, Chief Executive Officer EIT Digital

The panel will be moderated by Björn Fägersten, Senior Research Fellow at Swedish Institute of International Affairs Europe Programme.
