Japanese Youth Nationalism
The 74th Stockholm Seminar on Japan
The study of taken-for-granted nationalism and day-to-day unconscious flagging of national symbols in established nations is increasing. There are also studies that emphasize how ecstatic events, such as the Olympics and the Football World Cup, concretize national identities. By critically engaging with these concepts, Kazuya Fukuoka delves into the nature of Japanese youth nationalism. What are its sources? How do the Japanese youth perceive national symbols such as the national flag and how is it related to their sense of nation?
