Shifting Concepts of Masculinity in the Middle East
Listen to our UI podcast on understanding perceptions of masculinities in the MENA region from the seminar organised by us and UN Women.
Significant attention has been paid in recent years to women’s rights and conditions in the MENA region. Forced migration and relocation caused by regional instabilities are shifting the balance of power between the sexes in unexpected ways. Relatively little research has been done regarding men’s perspectives and behaviours on the changing landscape of gender roles and rights.
This seminar discussed the key findings of the study “Understanding Masculinities, Results from the International Men and Gender Equality Study in the Middle East and North Africa” (dubbed IMAGES), produced by UN Women and Promundo.
Speakers:
Shereen El Feki, Senior Fellow Promundo, Co-principal Investigator IMAGES MENA
Anthony Keedi, Masculinities Technical Advisor at ABAAD-Resource Centre for Gender Equality
Mohammad Naciri,UN Women’s Regional Director for the Arab States Region
Luis Lineo, President, MÄN
The seminar was moderated by Lucia Ardovini, Research Fellow at UI's Middle East and North Africa Programme.
