The Future of the Japan–EU Economic Relationship with Brexit

The world has held serious concern about possible resurgence of trade protectionism since the Brexit process started and Mr. Trump came into the White House. The Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement in July 2017 is a statement for free trade. The significance of the Agreement is discussed in connection with economic reform in Japan under Abenomics particularly in agriculture and other key sectors and on-going negotiations over other mega-FTAs in East Asia.  

Fukunari Kimura is Professor of Faculty of Economics, Keio University and Chief Economist, Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).  He serves as a co-editor of the Journal of the Japanese and International Economies.  He earned  his Ph.D. in Economics from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
