"Rule of Law Intermediaries: Brokering Influence in Myanmar" - A book discussion with Kristina Simion
A seminar with Kristina Simion on her newly published book "Rule of Law Intermediaries: Brokering Influence in Myanmar".
Who are Rule of Law intermediaries and what role do these actors play in Rule of Law assistence? In this book discussion with Kristina Simion on her newly published book "Rule of Law Intermediaries: Brokering Influence in Myanmar", we zoom in on intermediaries' crucial importance in establishing trust and translating Rule of Law to a national context.
By focusing on the decade of Myanmar's political transformation, Kristina explores rule of law assistance through the practice and experience of intermediaries, their capital, strategies and challenges. How do intermediaries influence the field, and the ways in which the rule of law is brokered transnationally? And why do they matter?
In light of recent developments the prospects for governance reform have dramatically changed in Myanmar, nevertheless, intermediaries that were active during the country's transitional decade are now able to draw on their international linkages to channel support to domestic struggles.
Dr. Kristina Simion is a Research Fellow at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI) and a visiting fellow at the Department of Political & Social Change, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. She works as a specialist in the Swedish government, focusing on rule of law development assistance and Myanmar.
