The 105th Stockholm Seminar on Japan: Virtual Museums and Visualization of Cultural Heritage

Digitalization is rapidly changing the foundations for many industries and sectors of society. This brings new possibilities to communicate and transform activities. UI and the Stockholm School of Economics invite you to a seminar on Virtual Museums and Visualization of Cultural Heritage.

The cultural and creative industries are one such sector using digitalization for development. This Stockholm Seminar on Japan took stock on how digitalization is used within museums as a mean for visualization and communication into the future with a presentation of joint work in Sweden and Japan.

The Virtual Museum is a project with the aim to develop innovative digital technologies and new methods to create and visualize art collections and cultural heritage.

Speaker: Dr. Johan Eriksson, Uppsala University

Johan Eriksson is Head of the Department of Art History at Uppsala University and Chair of JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) Swedish Alumni Club.

His research focuses on visual communication in early modern Europe and Japan, history of collections, digital art history, and virtual museums.

Moderator: Dr. Patrik Ström, Director, European Institute of Japanese Studies, Stockholm School of Economics.

The Japan seminar series is jointly organized by the European Institute of Japanese Studies at Stockholm School of Economics, the Asia Programme at The Swedish Institute of International Affairs, the Department of Asian, Middle Eastern and Turkish Studies at Stockholm University and the Swedish Defence University. It features monthly seminars on Japanese economy, politics and society.
